Regine honored to be idol of aspiring singers

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez is flattered to be the idol of many young aspiring singers, she said Friday with husband Ogie Alcasid at her side.

“Hindi ako nai-insecure,” Regine said in an interview with dzMM’s Karen Davila and Vic Lima. “I feel flattered, I feel honored na ako na ina-idolize, kasi dati ako lang ‘yung naga-idolize. Ngayong ako na ‘yun. Nakakatuwa.

“Siguro kasi how I started also, sa contest din ako nanggaling,” Regine added. "Siguro they can relate."

Young pop singers like Sarah Geronimo and Angeline Quinto, who both got their big break after winning in singing contests, have both been vocal about their adulation for Regine.

Ogie, who is proud of his wife and her achievements as a singer, said, “Ang-daming magagaling na singer dito sa Pilipinas, pero itong asawa ko ang pinakamagaling.”

Regine, Ogie meet David Archuleta

Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez met “American Idol Season 7” runner-up David Archuleta on Sunday.

In her official Twitter account, Velasquez said she and her husband, singer Ogie Alcasid, went to the studio where Archuleta was recording.

Velasquez said they chanced upon Archuleta singing the OPM song “Nandito Ako,” which was originally sang by Alcasid.

"Went to see david he was recording nandito ako wow what a beautiful voice and a wonderful guy,” she said.

Archuleta, on the other hand, said it was great meeting the two Filipino singers.

Archuleta is in the country for a television series in another network.

Meanwhile, Velasquez said she is already returning to work after giving birth to her first child.

“Back to work ako medyo hirap iiwan ko si Nate hay:-(sorry anak work lang si mom,” she said.

Velasquez and Alcasid are set to hold a Valentine concert this February.

Son of Regine, Ogie gets baptised

Celebrity couple Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid are a picture of proud parents as their first born son got baptised on Sunday.

In an interview with “The Buzz,” Alcasid revealed that it was their decision to have baby Nate christened in a Catholic and a Christian church.

Alcasid said baby Nate has 10 sets of god parents in his Catholic baptism while he has three sets of god parents in the Christian offering.

According to Velasquez, they chose their closest friends from show business including actor Dingdong Dantes and actress Kris Aquino to be baby Nate’s second parents.

Meanwhile, the couple also answered questions whether they will allow their son to have commercials.

“We’re still deciding kung gusto naming tanggapin kasi ang liit pa niya eh. Hindi pa kami nagde-decide. Napag-usapan na namin pero hindi pa kami nagde-decide,” the Asia’s Songbird said.

Velasquez gave birth to baby Nate last November 8.
